My little inspirations

I miss the kids.

During my more active days in Lingkod, I was part of those who serve in PCMC -- every other saturday afternoon, we'd visit the sick kids in the charity ward of the Philippine Children's Medical Center (PCMC) in QC. Financially, we don't get to help out much. But we'd like to think that our simple efforts of entertaining the kids, listening to their parents' concerns, and praying for their health were somewhat significant enough already.

Let me see, what do I miss most about the kids? The way their face would light up with the simplest joys. Their genuine smiles, their heartfelt laughs. Even the smallest thing that you'd do for them, like making a paper airplane, never goes unappreciated. The way they'd tell their stories so animately, or listen to yours so intently. They'd look at you with trusting eyes, full of hope. They seem to forget why they were there in the first place -- that they were sick, some even terminally ill. They take everything in stride.

You'd think that you would go there to help them out, to bring them hope, to give support. But in reality, you'd be the one learning a life lesson. You're the one who'd leave the place feeling thankful. Not because you realize that you're more blessed than them, but because you get to spend a few hours with the little insipring kids, and that you'd feel the hope and contentment that they have.

Hmmm, I think its about time I go visit them again.

I love kids myself. Work is not as tedious when you are around them. I am glad to hear that you want to visit the kids. I work as a medical assistant for pediatric oncology here in Kaiser. The twinkle in the eyes of the sick children whenever they have visitors is almost magical. :)
